I own 6.5 pairs of Gloves

This morning I was getting ready to go pressure wash my Mom's house so I can paint it. I decided since it was cold I needed to wear a pair of gloves. I have a pair of neoprene gloves that I use for canoeing when it is cold. As I was getting out my gloves I was thinking I have several different pairs. So I got them all out and realized I have 6 and a half pairs of gloves. The half pair is a single glove that has velcro and is used for holding sand paper while I am doing woodturning. I also have gloves for biking warm and cold weather. I have a pair of gloves I wear running. A pair for working in the yard, and a pair of mittens. Who knew someone could own so many pairs of gloves. Oh, I just remembered I also wear disposable gloves when working with wood finishes out in my shop. I buy these in a box of 100 at a time. So I officially own more gloves then shoes.

More photoshop

This is another photoshop project. I am trying to learn how to really use this program. It can do a ton of things. This was meant to be a poster or magazine cover. I wasn't really sure about what text to add but wanted to have some room on the right side for the text. The picture on the bottom was the original. I removed myself from the original and even managed to lose a few pounds thanks to the liquify tool. The rest was just adding text and drop shadows and such. I am trying to do these small projects to learn the tools but also get quicker using photoshop.

Let me know what you think of the final picture. And if you want to come out and go for a run, swim or bike ride let me know.

stickers

I finally broke down and got a sticker for my car. I did the Ironman 70.3 Miami race back in October. They had stickers at the expo but I didn't want to jinx myself and buy it before the race. So I returned home and checked at the running stores with no luck. I was doing some shopping on Amazon the other day and found the stickers. When I put the sticker on my car I noticed my reflection. I decided this would make a good picture. I have already signed up for Ironman Florida 70.3 The race is May 15th down at Disney. So I know what I am doing for winter training. I know Marilyn and Hillary have signed up already. Let me know if anyone else has signed up. We will have to plan some group training.

photoshop tree

So last night I was playing around with photoshop and got into the brushes. I didn't know that all these brushes were available. I made this whole picture using different brushes. It didn't take too long to make and was a lot of fun. It is a simple drawing made up of several layers. I think I used about 12 different colors of leaves. I also adjusted the opacity to add to the layering effect.

Training group

This was a class project I just turned in. It had to be a surreal image. This was a fun project. I started with the idea of having a group of runners and putting animal skin on them. I wanted to bring out their inner animals. It took a few tries to get the effect I was looking for. The first try I made us all different animals, I learned a lot but didn't like the way some of us cam out. I really liked the way the Chetah spots looked so I re-did all of us. with spots. I also played with a few backgrounds and had fun putting us in different places. When I cut the people out I found that we needed shadows to help make us look right. The shadows are pretty subtle but are needed to make the photo look right. I got some good comments in class last night about the skin and I'm hoping I get an "A" on my project.

Small Businesses rock

I have been complaining about my Garmin 310xt that I wear when I exercise. It is a watch that tracks my heart rate, maps my activities and times said events. It has started acting up lately and I was loosing faith in the numbers it was providing post workout. Yesterday I went to First Place Sports to sign up for the Outback Half Marathon on Thanksgiving day. I was asking if they knew what I should do about my garmin. I was told to bring it back in and they would exchange it for a new one. You just gotta love when a business stands behind a product like that. Replacement of my garmin was not what I was looking for when explaining the problem. But I have to say it made me feel really good about First Place Sports. And the new unit seems to have taken care of the problem.

Thanks Guys,

Riding the bus

Lost Friends,
Not really lost just kind of misplaced. I have had lots of friends come and go in my lifetime. When I was young my Dad was in the Navy so we moved around a bit. This was hard on a young kid having to move away from a best friend. The upside of this learning to make new friends. This is a good life skill to have. It seems these days I have a lot of friends that I don't get to see very often. So when I run into old friends I am happy to see them. We have a few minutes to catch up on how we are each doing, ask about some other people and then we each go our separate ways.

Usually I make friends based on the activity I am doing. These shared experiences bring people together. That and the time spent in that activity. If there is some risk involved the experience is even stronger. I raced sailboats for many years. I met many people and counted many of them as friends. I have tons of stories about people, weather conditions and locations we visited. Even when sailing my boat singlehanded I would talk to other people out on the water, in the bar afterwards or while helping each other with our boats. All my favorite memories on the water involve people. I met my wife in one of my sailing classes. I have done Jiu-Jitsu, woodturning, running and now triathlon.

This morning I was thinking about someone I haven't seen in a while. We are both busy with our families and our training. I finished swimming and ran into another old friend from my sailing days, we talked for a few minutes and then went on our separate ways. I have always said life is a like a bus ride. Sometimes people get on and ride for a while and become friends, sometimes your friends get off only to get back on later. So if any of my friends are reading this the bus is only a short ways from the next stop.
